Over the years, I’ve discovered that some of the most important conversations happen in our own heads.
Not the conversations we have with coworkers, friends, or family, but the ones we have with ourselves while driving down a quiet road, sitting on a plane, lying awake at night, or reflecting on a chapter of life that didn’t turn out quite the way we expected.
This section is a collection of those thoughts.
Some are observations. Some are questions. Some are memories. Some are lessons that took years to understand. Others are thoughts that remain unresolved and may never have clear answers.
When I was younger, I spent most of my energy focused on what was next. The next opportunity. The next challenge. The next goal. Like many people, I assumed life would make more sense once I got a little further down the road.
What I’ve learned is that life rarely works that way.
Instead, understanding often comes much later, after enough time has passed to see how the pieces fit together.
The older I get, the more interested I become in the stories behind the stories. Not simply what happened, but why certain experiences stayed with me while others faded away. Why some relationships shaped my life and others disappeared. Why some decisions that felt insignificant at the time eventually changed everything.
I’ve lived in different countries, worked in different industries, raised children, started over more than once, and experienced both success and disappointment. What surprises me most is how often the lessons had very little to do with the events themselves and everything to do with how those experiences changed the way I viewed the world.
These writings are not intended to provide answers. They are an attempt to better understand the questions.
Many of the thoughts shared here are incomplete. Some may evolve over time. Others may contradict things I’ve written elsewhere. That’s part of being human.
This section exists because I wanted a place to capture the observations that often get lost between life’s larger events.
The things we think about but don’t always talk about. The things we learn but rarely write down. The things that eventually become part of who we are.Perhaps most importantly, this section exists for my children.
Someday, when I’m no longer here, I hope these thoughts provide more than memories. I hope they provide context.
Not just what happened during my life, but how I experienced it.
Those are often two very different stories.
